When you look at the sleek, self-contained pellet stove units that are being sold today, it might be hard to comprehend that there are numerous accessories that will be needed to use and maintain them. However, by doing a little research on the Internet, you’ll find that there are dozens of accessories that can be purchased by pellet stove owners. Maybe after you purchase a stove you won’t ever have a need for most of these accessories, but it’s always nice to know that when you need something, it will be available.

You never anticipate something going wrong when you purchase a beautiful, new item for your home, such as a pellet stove, but it’s good to know that there will be ways to repair problems should the need arise down the road instead of having to purchase a new unit. There are also issues that are to be expected any time you use a stove, such as creosote build up. These stoves have lovely, shiny glass windows in them so that you’re able to sit by a crackling fire on a cold night and watch the flames. Of course, the beautiful flames create residue which adheres to the glass and can be difficult to remove in order to restore the look the stove had when it was new. There is a special glass cleaner, however, which you can purchase as a pellet stove accessory, which is formulated to clean the residue off of stove windows.

Another cleaning issue that comes with owning a pellet stove is the need to remove debris from the vent system. Once again, you will find a pellet stove accessory to help you in the form of a long, narrow fiber brush that will be able to reach areas you cannot otherwise get to. There are a lot of other accessories available that you’d expect to need when purchasing a stove, such as a specially-designed pellet hod that will hold up to 15 pounds of pellets, an ash vac, materials you can use to help you start a fire, and replacement filters.

It can be a joy owning and using a modern stove, but when you have one installed you need to keep in mind that you will have additional expenses when purchasing pellet stove accessories.

A wood stove is a device, which is normally used in the kitchens for the heating of food, keeping it warm and making it palatable. Some antique wooden stoves can be used for the purpose of heating and cooking even today. Wood stoves are used for household cooking needs as well as for heating purposes.

One of the purposes of a wood burning stove was to enclose the fire so to generate more heat and make the heating more efficient. A wood stove is often used for heating rooms or cooking food.

They are made up of cast iron and other strong metals and are sturdy enough to handle the amount of heat generated. A stove uses other sources of fuel to burn and make heat, many use wood or pellets. Wood stoves are also used to heat homes apart from their cooking function. Some come with glass panes that can handle the heat but adds a nice touch when you see the flame.

It is important to know what types of fuel your particular type of burning stove can use and what cannot be used safely. When purchasing a pellet stove or a wood burning stove, there are many factors to consider before making the purchase. There are a few things to think about before purchasing and installing a wood burning stove in your home. After calculating the installation space understanding how to keep all the combustible items safe you need to hook up the chimney so the smoke is directed to the outside.

Want something different than carrying in wood, cutting wood and storing it, then try out the new pellet stoves, you can store the pellet easily, there is no cutting, no mess, but it gives you the feel of a wood burning stove. When looking at wood stoves and pellet stoves the pellet stoves are a little more expensive but the plus side is that they come ready to use, they are cleaner and easier to use. This is 20% less efficient than wood pellet or corn stoves. Pellet stoves are very easy to use, you don’t need to cut wood all you need to do is open the bag of pellets and poor them in, the auger will move the pellets as needed to be burned. Pellet stoves have a mechanical part that feeds the fire when needed; you do not have to go near the hot flame. You can get the pellets anywhere today, most of the major hardware stores carry the easily to carry bags. Stove are cheaper and you can use them with a cheaper fuel source such as pellets, firewood or any other type of materials.

Antique wood stoves are collector’s items that are very valuable to some people. There are many different types of antique wood stoves available. Today you can find the stoves in local household stores, furniture stores and many stores that sell antiques.

Some of the older wood stoves are considered antiques, and many people use these pieces as decoration purposes only. Many antique pieces from the past are available for sale today in different antique shops and on the Internet.

Central heating and outdoor pellet stoves work in virtually the same manner. These systems are excellent if you are looking for a manner in which you can heat not only your home, but other buildings, swimming pools and spas at a lower cost than if you were to utilize a traditional furnace.

Most outdoor furnaces are non-pressurized and are able to save you massive amounts on your heating costs each year. Not only are the outdoor pellet stoves able to burn pellets, but also other types of fuel as well including wood, coal, corn cob and other natural fuels. The burning of natural fuels allows you to be more self-sufficient and saves you on expensive natural gas and oil heating bills. Additionally, these systems can be set up with a thermostat in your home to ensure proper temperature control. Your original heating system does not have to be disconnected, but used only as a back-up source should you require it.

Outdoor pellet stoves are not usually placed as far away from the buildings as a boiler system can be. Outdoor pellet stoves are placed approximately twenty feet away from your home, while a boiler system can be placed up to five hundred feet away from your home. Both systems heat water that is then ran through an air-to-water heat exchange system. You may also add a water-to-water heat exchange system to allow you to provide your home with hot water off of the same system.

On both the central heating and outdoor pellet stove models, the mess is located outside your home. There is no wood to be stacked or hauled inside. Plus, the risk of house fires and chimney fires are eliminated. Additionally, you don’t have to worry about smoke inhalation or carbon monoxide poisoning, making these very safe options for heating your home.

The greatest benefit to these systems is not only your heating versatility, but also the fact that you can save up 50-100% on your heating annual costs. What it cost you prior to the system per month, may now cost you only that amount each year.

If you would like even more convenience in your life, these systems can provide it. Imagine never having to scrape ice and snow off of your sidewalks and driveway. With these systems you can have radiant piping installed under your driveway and walk ways. When it snows or ices over in the winter, the piping will melt it away and it doesn’t cost any more than to run your outdoor pellet stove.

The system you choose will depend entirely on your needs, but either system is bound to decrease your heating and add convenience to your lifestyle.

The Italians are known for making a great looking and efficient wood pellet stove. These stove alternatives to gas furnaces and traditional heating methods are eco-friendly and produce heat and energy at a rapid rate. Wood pellets are simply the unused wood from sawmills (sawdust) and are pressed into pellets under pressure. These pellets are tiny, weigh less and are easier to transport than firewood.

Consumers looking to purchase a wood pellet stove will find many different types and designs from Italy, the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Italians are known for their sleek and modern designs, some of which aren’t even available in the United States.

MCZ wood pellet stoves have been acclaimed for their super sleek design and modern and contemporary looks. They have stand alone and built in models. The Panorama style is the stand alone model with an elegant structure that fits nicely into any living space. It can run for at least 12 hours on medium power heating and it uses pellets with the MCZ’s “Active System” that determines intuitively how much air should be used for combustion. The MCZ Panorama is easily maintained through its removable side panels. The Panorama can be built into a number of different MCZ models depending on what type of look fits your living space.

EdilKamin is also a well known Italian wood stove manufacturer. They have more than 25 different models ranging in all different styles and designs. They are made with ceramic, ollite and steel coverings. EdiKamin’s designs can be programmed remotely and have very little smoke discharge which can be transferred through a wall, making a chimney unnecessary, though you can also chose a natural exhaust discharge. Some of their models are quite small at less than 50 centimeters wide and 80 centimeters tall.

Not only do some of the wood and pellet burning stoves heat more than one room and use less energy, some are designed to heat water for use in the home. Clam, another Italian manufacturer, has a stove design that uses the heat from the combustion to heat water through a hydraulic system. This multi-purpose design is considered very energy efficient and eco-friendly.

Similar to the Panorama box that MCZ offers, Palazzetti produces a box-like model that is multi-purpose like the MCZ product, which can heat more than one room and be modified to fit your décor. Palazetti has a wide variety of stoves, both wood burning and wood pellet, some of which have a more traditional, larger design. Some of their larger products can heat an entire house with the right ventilation, or there are smaller box style models for smaller spaces. Nordica Extraflame is also widely known for its ultra sophisticated and eco-friendly wood and pellet burning stoves. Their styles are designed with hip colors like red and black that are small enough to fit into a corner or your living space.

Italian wood pellet stoves are known as some of the best in the market due to their eco-friendly aspects and sleek design. Many consumers have opted to import these high-producing and great looking designs for their homes.

Many people are already using pellet stoves as there way to keep their homes warm with a low cost of maintenance. There are different kinds of them like corn pellet stoves or wood pellet stoves and you should buy the one that fit your house requirements.

There are some things that you have to check before you buy a corn pellet stove, you should check what is the size of your home, the floor plan and your currently heating system. Also, ask your self what is the type that is available in more quantities in your local town: corn, fuel or wood pellets? Both wood and corn pellets are very similar in prices and are very efficient.

You need electricity to use them, they consume about nine dollars worth of electricity per month. No matter what kind of pellet stove you buy, you need to clean it annually and give it maintenance.

One drawback of corn pellets, is that you need to be careful of how you storage your corn in your house, you should clean very well corn spills so you can avoid problems with insects and rodents in your house. However, if it fits your needs, its a great choice. Always verify the features that it has, the requirements of your house, ask for a warranty and you will be fine.

Using a pellet stove of any kind will save you a lot of money on heating bills and you will have a better heating system in your house for years to come. If you havent try one, you should make a search for the best brands available and try one of them.

Most of the time wood pellet stoves will run better and more efficient when they are clean. The air inside can move around better and this will allow the appropriate combustion in the firebox. You can clean your pellet stove yourself and it will not take much time or work at all. You will have to have a few simple tools in order to get a better clean and have an easier time as well.

A few things that you will need to clean your pellet stove are a paintbrush, paper towels, cloths, shop vac and the scraping rod that usually comes along with your stove. When you place a new bag of pellets into the hopper of the stove, it is a good idea to clean the heat exchanger. When you are cleaning this it will allow the heat to move from the firebox to your area a lot easier. It is best to use a good quality pellet to avoid cleaning more often.

When you shut your pellet stove off, you can then use the paintbrush to clean the dust that the stove produces. You can use any other type of duster or brush for this job too. The brush will have the ability to get into the small cracks and spaces that the dust can fall into. You will then be able to vacuum the ash out of the collection pan easily.

Doing simple cleaning each month will make it easier to do a thorough cleaning every few months or so. You can use your brush or shop vac to clean the tough to see areas that are going to need cleaned. Each year you should get a professional furnace cleaner check your gaskets and motors to make sure that they are running freely. They will be able to get into the tough areas and see if there is anything that looks like it needs replaced or fixed. Also have the firepot cleaned well wand test your battery back up system if you have one equipped on your pellet stove.

When it is time to shut your pellet stove off for the summer, you should take out all of the pellets from the hopper. Pellets that are left inside over the summer may accumulate moisture and not need feed properly when you turn your stove back on in the fall. You will have to unplug your stove to protect in if there are any lightning strikes or even a power surge can harm your stove.

You should also check your owner’s manual to see if there are any other recommended cleaning and safety tips to follow. It is always smart to use caution and common sense when you are using a pellet stove. When you follow the rules and the instructions, you will see that this is a great way to heat your home.

Many people have started to use pellet stoves due to their high efficiency in heating and combustion. Is much more convenient to have one of them, than a wood stove or fireplace and it also saves you a lot of money in electricity bills.

Some people are concern about the prices , the truth is that they are not cheap, but they can work for years warming your home and saving you thousands of dollars in electricity bills. You should also notice that, usually they have higher demand on winter and thus the prices are much higher that at any other time in the year.

Generally the retail prices range from $1400 to $3000 dollars depending on what model you want and what features it has. There are some of them with remote control and there are others that are multi-fuel pellet stoves.

For example there is the 40LB Hopper , which at this moment costs $1349.99. There is also the Auburn Heater- NPS40, which costs $2,002.0

I went to ebay.com made a search and found a Newport Avalon Wood pellet stove at $949.99, which is a great price. This is a used one, but has all the features that you need.

As you can see prices differ depending on how advanced is the model and what are the features that you want to have. Prices on used pellet stoves can be very cheap, just make sure that it has all the features you need and that it has a warranty. Also, before you buy one, make sure you know where in your house it will be install it and what ventilation you are going to need.

The heating season is approaching quickly and it is high time to install that wood burning stove or pellet stove you have been thinking about. Which one will it be?

The first thing to check is the availability of pellets in your area. At this point in time, you might not be able to purchase pellets locally. And purchasing locally is important, since it means that there is a sustainable fuel supply in your area.

Contact the nearest store that sells pellet stoves and ask about a list of pellet suppliers. Theres should be at least two in your area. Ask about prices, availability and where they get their pellets from. You want to make sure that the pellets for your stove are from a local and sustainable source. As with anything, shop around and compare prices, proximity, and delivery guarantees.

What Are The Differences Between Wood And Pellet Stoves?

Pellet stoves burn more efficiently and cleanly than wood burning stoves.

All pellet stoves require an electrical connection, while only those wood burning stoves with blowers require an electrical connection.

Wood burning stoves require a functioning chimney or approved vent, whereas most pellet stoves require a conventional flue. Important: check your particular model and your localcodes!

Pellet stoves distribute the heat by blowing hot air into the space. These stoves do notget very hot to the touch. This can be a deciding factor if you have small children. Pellet stoves are quick to provide heat, and quick to cool down, once the fire is out.

Wood burning stoves radiate heat. Some models also have fans to blow hot air into the space. Wood burning stoves get very hot to the touch and keep radiating warmth, long after the fire has burnt down.

Wood pellet stoves require less attention than cord wood burning stoves:

Pellets are delivered in bags, or filled into a pellet bin in your basement. You will have to bring the bags into your house.

Pellets are fed into the stove via augers. You fill the pellet hopper, which is integrated into the top of the pellet stove, with approximately 40 lbs. of pellets.

You set the temperature dial at the stove to the desired temperature. The stove can be a self-igniting model or be started with a starting gel and match. The pellets will feed automatically as required to maintain the temperature.

A wood pellet stove can heat your home for up to 40 hours, without requiring any more of your attention

You refill the pellet chamber as needed

You empty the ash bin every few days

Wood burning stoves require a good amount of work:

Wood is “dumped” in front of your house and you will have to stack the wood, cover it and bring it into the house as required.

Kindling is required to start the stove. You can buy kindling, collect it in nearby woods or from a wood-processing manufacturer (such as flooring or furniture manufacturers) or chop it yourself.

You will have to build the fire and start it manually.

You control the temperature by adding more wood, opening and closing the air supply damper. Keeping in mind that the wood burning stove is slow-reacting.

Your wood burning stove will heat your home, unattended, for up to 12 hours, depending on stove size, wood being burnt, and setting of the air supply damper.

You will need to empty the ash bin daily.

Wood pellet stoves are considerably more costly than wood burning stoves. You can find a good wood burning stove for under $ 1,000, whereas a good, reliable pellet stove will cost over $2,000.

Cost for pellets and cost for cord wood depend to a large extent on the region you live in. In some regions pellets are more expensive, in other areas cord wood tops the list. Some areas have experienced pellet shortages, with the increase in popularity of pellet stoves.

Wood burning stoves are more messy than pellet stoves.

Your Personal Preferences

After reading the above comparison, your personal preferences will also help you decide.

How important is it to you to have the cleanest burning and most efficient stove?

How much work are you willing to do? Some people like stacking and chopping wood. Building a fire in the stove every morning can be a wonderful ritual to start the day.

How much money do you have a available and are willing to spend on a stove?

Do you prefer the radiant heat of the wood burning stove or the hot/warm air blowing from the pellet stove?

Would you like to cook a winter soup on the wood burning stove?

Other Deciding Factors

In addition to the personal preferences, the following factors must be considered:

Are you physically able and willing to do the work required for a wood burning stove?

Do you have the time required to tend to the stove?

How easily can you install electrical power for you pellet stove?

How easily can you add a chimney or vent stack?

Are power outages a real possibility in your area? Will you have a back-up generator for the pellet stove, or will you need the wood burning stove as a heat source?

Heating your home with wood, be it pellets or cut wood, requires considerably more work than simply flipping a switch on your oil or gas-fired furnace. The benefits though, in my opinion, outweigh the hard work and the sometimes messy living room. No matter which option you choose, you can heat your home with a sustainable fuel with either a wood burning stove or a pellet stove.

People have been looking for ways to heat up their homes during the cold winter season. Now if you’re living in the state of California then you won’t experience much of a cold season even in the winter but if you’re in the Midwest and the east coast it is a frozen tundra in the winter season. Most people even on the east coast have been complaining that their gas bills have gone up too much and with the grip that the gas and electric companies have on us with their monopoly we keep paying higher and higher prices every year. What can we do to stop our dependence on them? The answer is simple: we go back to what mother nature gave us.

Wood pellet stoves are amazingly efficient for keeping whole homes warm even during the coldest of winters. The wood pellet itself is made from sawdust that has been recycled. This sawdust has been around us for a very long time and even back in the old west. If this sawdust wasn’t used for wood pellet stoves it would be dumped in massive landfills which would then make even more problems for us since it just creates more waste. This way , we are using them for our wood pellet stove and cleaning the environment of waste. This is a double winner for us and the air we breath around us.

The pellets are so cheap that they provide a super cheap alternative to conventional heating methods like the big, lumbering central heating units we have now in our homes. Not only are the pellets cheap but the process of building the stoves themselves are also very cheap, so your saving money all the way around. I remember my own heating unit cost me over 4500 dollars to install and if I heard of the wood pellet stoves back then I surely would have purchased one. Another advantage of these pellets is that they are very clean burning so that’s another plus for our atmosphere. Now that i know about these wood pellet stoves I will definitely spread the word on them. With the ozone layer getting thinner and global warming reaching potentially dangerous levels the world is starting to think green and we must start putting alternative heating technologies into use today, and in this way we can better heat our houses and protect our precious planet earth from being ravaged by our insatiable appetite to consume dangerous fuels.

If you think about it, spending a ton of money on a new pellet stove for the privilege of burning cheaper fuel defeats the whole purpose. However, if you can buy a slightly used pellet stove for half price – or less, you’ve saved enough money to pay for a year’s worth of corn or wood pellet fuel.

Buying a used pellet stove for your home requires no more time or effort than buying a new one. In one respect it’s easier since you have fewer choices. But lack of choice doesn’t have to mean lack of quality. I’m sure the current owner of any stove you look at will tell you it was the best stove they could get at the time.

If your search for a pellet stove has just begun, new or used, the following buying guide will provide the information you need to make an informed decision.

Visit your local building department

Installing a wood or pellet stove usually requires a building permit. While you’re picking up your permit application, tell them the type of heating appliance you plan to install and ask what kind of additional documentation, if any, is required. This is especially important if you own a mobile or modular home.

When I talked to the City of Quincy building department, they said a product brochure with clearance and venting information would be helpful. You can get all this information by visiting the stove manufacture’s website, downloading the owner’s manual and printing it out.

Choose your fuel and stove size

If you live in the Corn Belt, the choice of fuel is obvious. If you live in the Northeast, the fuel of choice is wood pellets. Since fuel corn is “imported” to the Northeast, the price of wood pellets is competitive with corn. Wood pellet fuel is also becoming a common commodity in home improvement stores as more home owners in this region purchase wood pellet stoves.

You don’t need a big stove to save big. Most of the used corn and wood pellet stoves I’ve seen produce 35,000-45,000 btus – enough to heat a typical 1,200 square foot ranch or the main living areas of a two story home.

If you can get a good deal on a larger, 50-60,000 btu stove, one of these will work great too since these high output models come equipped with 5 heat settings ranging from a low of 8,000 btus for chilly days, to max power for the coldest weather.

Look for these features and extras:

Electronic Ignition

Just because you’re buying a used pellet stove doesn’t mean you should return to the dark ages of pellet stove heating with gel starters. Frankly, I wouldn’t buy a stove without electronic ignition.

Large Hopper Capacity

A standard size hopper holds 40 pounds of pellet fuel. This is enough fuel to heat your home for 20-30 hours. A larger capacity hopper, although not necessary, adds convenience by requiring less frequent fillings.

Heat Output Controls

During the months that transition in and out of the heating season, you won’t need the full heating capacity of your pellet stove. A heat output control will ensure maximum comfort from minimal fuel. Heat output controls can take the form of a thermostat, hi/lo blower or variable speed auger that controls the rate pellets are fed into the burn pot.

Air Washing System

Believe it or not, the #1 complaint people have with pellet stoves is dirty viewing glass. An air washing system, now standard on many new pellet stoves, removes the fly ash from the viewing window and eliminates frequent cleaning.

Extras

Many sellers of used pellet stoves include the venting pipe, hearth pad, log set, and any left over pellet fuel in the purchase price. These extras can add up to hundreds of dollars in additional savings.

Where to Look for a Used Pellet Stove

Start with craigslist. Since most used pellet stove sellers offer pick up only, craigslist enables you to refine your search by City or State. This is a big time saver. A recent check in the Boston area turned up 12 used stoves within a 50 mile radius of my home.

ebay has plenty of listings too, you just won’t find as many local sellers as you will on craigslist. When I narrowed my ebay results to a 50 mile radius of my zip code using the Search Option function, it returned only 1 seller.

However, ebay will conveniently notify you by email whenever a new listing pops up. Another option is to delay payment for 3 months by using the ebay credit card.

Here’s a search tip: A search on either craigslist or ebay will turn up MORE used pellet stoves if you use the term “pellet stove” rather than the narrower “used pellet stove.” Also try “pellet”, “wood pellet”, or a brand name, such as “Englander”.

How Much Can I Expect to Save?

Generally speaking, the higher the original retail price, the more you will save percentage wise. Stoves that sold for $3,000 new can often be purchased used at savings of 50-70%. Stoves priced new under $2,000 seem to depreciate less.

Delivery

If you choose to pay for delivery, call someone like Yellow Truck or a courier service to make arrangements. If you buy from an ebay seller willing to ship the stove, a freight shipping calculator is provided on the sales page.

No matter who ships your stove, make the sure the truck they send has a lift gate so you can get your 300 pound stove off the truck.

Installation

Most cities and towns require a licensed pro to complete the installation. If you’re an experienced home owner, finding one shouldn’t be a problem. If you’re new to home ownership, I recommend a service like Need Contractor for a list of pre-screened contractors is your area.

Contact the Seller

Don’t hesitate to contact the seller with any questions you might have. He or she

can be especially helpful in determining whether the used pellet stove for sale is still

under warranty.
